Rapper Jay-Z launches Monogram line of cannabis products

The internationally renowned rapper and outspoken critique of the war on drugs Jay-Z is jumping on the celebrity-cannabis trend and launching his own line of cannabis products. The new brand to be called Monogram, is being launched in partnership with Calvia. The two have already been working together since the summer of last year, with Jay-Z acting as head of strategy with the company.

Beyoncé’s partner and world-renown rapper, Jay-Z, is launching his own line of cannabis products. The musician’s new cannabis brand is being launched in partnership with the California-based company, Caliva. The pairing is natural, with Jay-Z already in collaboration with the Caliva brand, acting as the head of strategy since the summer of last year.

Jay-Z announces his new cannabis brand to be called Monogram

The announcement that the hip-hop artist is launching his own brand came late last week, with the rapper announcing his new brand of cannabis products will be called Monogram. In a press release statement, the company said:

“Monogram seeks to redefine what cannabis means to today’s users. In an effort to provide a more personalized customer experience, the brand will also be launched through a best-in-class e-commerce platform dedicated exclusively to its unique product line.”

Legal cannabis is a hot trend amongst American celebrities

With this entrepreneurial movement in the cannabis industry, Jay Z continues the stream of celebrities who are making inroads into this new industry. Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson, Seth Rogen, Whoopi Goldberg, Tommy Chong, B-Real, Wiz Khalifa, Montel Williams, Jim Belushi, Cheech Marin, Mickey Hart, Brendan Hill, Julian Marley, Al Harrington, Jason Gann, Terrell Davis, CJ Wallace, Gary Payton or Mike Tyson are amongst the countless other celebrities who have also entered the legal cannabis industry in the United States.

Monogram brand to target the recreational cannabis market

The new Monogram brand is to be aimed at recreational cannabis users. However, rising medical use of the plant will also likely see some of the brand’s customers consuming its products for treatment rather than recreational purposes. On Caliva’s website, the company describes the Monogram brand as marking “a new chapter in cannabis, defined by dignity, care, and consistency. It is a collective effort to bring you the best, and a humble quest to discover what is really best. Progress is infinite.”

A “billionaire” hip-hop ³singer

Forbes published last year that Jay-Z has become the first hip-hop artist to achieve multi-million dollar status, with Beyoncé’s husband’s fortune now exceeding a billion dollars.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter, is a New York musician with 19 grammy awards to his name. Born in 1969, he is also a producer, businessman, and an occasional actor, all in addition to his career as a rapper.

Launch of Monogram

It is still not yet known when Monogram will be launched, nor in which clinics and states it will be available in. However, we do know that Caliva will provide its products to more than 250 dispensaries in the state of California.

Whatever the case, the distribution and products will be done to the highest level. When the rapper first partnered with Calvia last year, he said, “everything I do, I want to do well and at the highest level. With all the potential of the cannabis industry, Caliva’s experience and ethics make them the best partners for this business. We want to create something extraordinary, have fun in the process, do good and attract people along the way.”

Launch efforts and consumer satisfaction are a priority

Accompanying the launch of his Monogram brand, Jay-Z is also launching a TIDAL playlist to attract attention: Monogram: Sounds from the Grow Room, which will feature artists such as Fela Kuti, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Outkast, and Rihanna.

Jay-Z has also produced his cannabis products to have the highest quality, aimed at satisfying the tastes of the most discerning cannabis users.

Calvia is positive about Jay-Z collaboration

Last year, Caliva CEO Dennis O’Malley said “We found that we were completely aligned around our values and this was just a home run,” in a statement about the brand’s collaboration with Jay-Z. O’Malley added, “We believe this partnership is unparalleled in this, or any other business, and we couldn’t be happier to work with him and have him as our Chief Brand Strategist.

Jay-Z is known for speaking out on many occasions about the harm that drug prohibition has caused, particularly to those who are disadvantaged by various circumstances. The launch of his own brand is clearly the next move.
