Here are several benefits of cannabis-based beauty products

Modern cosmetology found another use for cannabis: obtaining healthy skin and scalp. More specifically, cannabis treats issues that have no contraindicated effects for consumers.

Cannabis’ cosmetic benefits are thanks to a substance called cannabidiol (CBD). A natural remedy to relax and disinflame the skin, without risk of psychotropic effects.

Cannabis for beauty

Over the last few years, various brands in Europe and the United States have tested these products, making them out of hemp. Hemp is a subspecies of cannabis sativa. It does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a substance that has hallucinogenic effects.

According to research carried out by the University of Seville, hemp-based cannabis oil does not contain THC. It is feasible for use in many consumer products, such as cosmetics.

Skincare company The Body Shop has been bringing to the market a range of products made from hemp. According to the company, it contains 80% of essential fatty acids, such as Omega 3, 6 and 9, which are very effective moisturizers.

Multinational makeup chain Sephora launched its own hemp line on the market, offering consumers an anti-oxidant formula that fights free radicals. Its recipe combined it with phenolic acid and vitamin E.

Relaxation and hydration for your skin

Many hemp-based cosmetic products share the same relaxing property, which is perfect for caring for sensitive skin or acne. Some even mention its contribution to improving their mood.

Hemp beauty products range from body creams, lip balms, exfoliants, cosmetics, and even facial masks, which allows high absorption of its serum.

They can improve blood circulation as well as the drainage of the lymphatic system. Cannabis-based products can also help promote cell renewal, providing greater elasticity and smoothness to the skin. They can also rebuild damaged hair.

Cosmetics and cannabis

Interviewed by the Chamber of Commerce of Bogota, Colombia, Ana Maria Borda, scientific researcher at Khiron, states that their antioxidant capacity is the greatest benefit of these beauty products, combined with their high level of absorption.

“There are studies that prove benefits of cannabis on the skin as sebaceous regulation, anti-inflammatory capacity, antioxidant, water conservation, among others. However, these are general studies that do not report specific effects or differentiation according to skin types, says the specialist.

Although Cosmopolitan says studies in this field are still limited, it is believed that cannabis may help treat certain skin conditions such as psoriasis or atopic dermatitis.

The sale of cannabis-based beauty products is still very limited in Mexico. Only in stores like Sephora is it possible to find facial masks infused with hemp, and the rest of the product range is not sold in the country.
