The first-ever cannabis-themed museum opened in Las Vegas. Cannabition is the world’s first interactive museum focused on everything about cannabis. According to the museum’s founder, J.J. Walker, their aim is to destigmatize marijuana, per The Independent.
The museum features several exhibitions that visitors could enjoy. One of which is the world’s largest bong called Bongzilla, designed by Jerome Baker Design. It is a 24-foot bong that holds around 70 gallons of water including a half-a-pound of cannabis. Bongzilla actually works, though visitors can not use it with the current regulation in the state when it comes to consumption. But the state has already legalized recreational use of marijuana for adults last year.
Though it’s a museum, it does not actually offer historical artifacts. But it does showcase aspects of the cannabis industry including harvesting and cultivation. Most of the exhibits are informational. Visitors would also learn the difference between sativa and indica through W Vapes’ display.
Visitors can go through the whole museum for about 30 to 45 minutes on a self-guided tour. Most of the exhibitions look great for photos. They can also lie down on installations shaped like cannabis seed or sit on the lap of a giant Buddha.
The external part of the museum features a 17-foot-long mural created by Gear Duran and Heather Hermann. It showcases the timeline of cannabis throughout history including its use in the early Asian culture up to its restriction in the United States, per Leafly.

Apart from the installations, the management of Cannabition is also including a lounge for guests. That is when they amend the law on public consumption in the state.
The 9,000 square-foot space could have a lot of potentials. Most cannabis-themed trade shows usually pass through Nevada, particularly in Las Vegas. J.J. Walker had the idea more than a year before the museum launched. This was after he sold his My 420 Tours company in Colorado.
The Cannabition is at 450 Fremont Street, Las Vegas, and adults can experience this one of a kind exhibition for $24.20.
As of July 2017, the sale of marijuana for recreational purposes is legal in Nevada, per HuffPost. People that are 21 years old and above could buy recreational marijuana. Nevada is the fifth state to legalize the recreational use of cannabis, after Colorado, Washington, Alaska, and Oregon. About 54 percent of voters in the state has supported the legalization.
It was a strategic move for the state given the fact that the state is a major tourist destination, both nationally and globally. And with marijuana being legal, it opened another reason for tourists to visit the state. As mentioned, there are still restrictions for public use within the state, but future legislation may consider amending certain conditions when it comes to public consumption, which is what Cannabition is anticipating.
